Flooring for entry and mudroom?

Question:We are adding to our place 'up north'(Minnesota).

There are lots of hunters coming and going from Sept to Dec (and then there is ice fishing). Wet boots, sand, mud, hunting clothes, snow, etc. Separate mudroom entry...Floor needs to be VERY durable and easy upkeep.
Entry to house still needs to be durable, but less industrial strength. Entry to house flows into dining/kitchen/greatroom area.

Answers:
I would tile the floor and lay it on a slope [for good drainage after hosing off dirt]. If you can't find 'tough' enough tiles, then I would use 'duck-boards' over the top of the tiles, as the dirt will go through, you can hose them off and you can lift up the duck-boards for even easier cleaning. You may decide to put a shower area in this 'ante-room' and a good heater/exhaust fan for the best ventilation and drying out of the walls and fixtures. Another solution is 'checker-plate' flooring - very, very tough and it looks great! Using either method, you can follow on with textured tiles or vinyl, something that will match your dining room.

Go with ceramic tile and make sure you seal the grout very well. It's cheap and extremely durable. It's also easy to install.
I would use tile in the mudroom and slate in the entryway. Both are cleaned easily, although both can be slippery when wet.
