What are good room wall paint ideas for a modern/ retro room? HELP!?

Answers:
Pick a color you like and paint the whole wall. Then use masking tape to tape off some broad stripes and paint within the masking tape with a clear varnish. It doesn't really change the color of the stripes, it just makes them a little glossy. Use a satin finish varnish.

Modern retro would be like big circles, little circles, medium circles all over the walls! haha!

Metalic black will look awsome for years with some stars.
Earth tones are back--and a yellowy green is a retro color that is making a return. Accessorize with bark brown tones--check out www.benjaminmoore.com for ideas.
How about 1950's?
My mother painted the opposing walls pink and the other opposing walls grey-- this is in the years of the poodle skirt. Accents were black and fuchia pink-- she even painted the refrigerator! Dining table and chairs/with hutch were limed oak-- a bleached effect. oh, she had pink and grey dishes, too.
