What are some things I could make/sew to dress up the white walls of my baby's room?
Question:We got a baby boy coming soon and I would like to make his room extra cute. We rent, so I cannot paint any of the walls. I am also on a budget for materials. So far, I have all the furniture and the crib bedding is red, blue, green and yellow in a patchwork quilt design with jungle animals on it. my main color is green though, The yellow and red are more of accent colors. The room has all the potential to be adorable with all the essentials in it. I just need a little direction. Any ideas?

I had the same problem when I rented and had my first child. What I did was cut out some really cute shapes from wall paper designs. I had a teddy bear theme so I found teddy bear wallpaper, you could use a jungle or tropical theme and cut out the shapes. I then mixed a solution of cornstarch and water in equal parts and brushed on the back of the paper. You stick the cut out shapes on the wall and apply another coat of the cornstarch solution. When you move just spray water on the paper and it will sponge off easily. Since you can sew don't underestimate the impact of a very cute window treatment. You can wrap fake jungle vines on it and hang a stuffed monkey or a parrot on the window sill. It will also give something for your baby to focus on when his/her vision is developing. Keep it fun and it will also give your baby a stimulating visual environment to explore. Good luck and enjoy these years.
How about some colorful sheets drapped on the walls (with thumb tacks)? You could get a large sheet, tack the corners into place, and gather the center. And pin colorful posters, fabric prints, sand pail/shovel, other light weight toys. on an opposing wall-sheet.
Cut out wallpaper accents and affix them to the wall with clear thumbtacks. Find some cute bedsheets and add loops that you can slip over
a curtain rod. Also check out www.hgtv.com for
some great ides.
If you made the bedding you could use the same material to make prints.
Also, wallpaper borders are cute. Just blue tack them instead of wallpapering them.
I really prefer minimal decorating, it is much classier, just a few main pictures would be enough.
Try not to go for items that are too babyish then you wont have to redecorate as your boy gets older.
Great ideas so far. You could also check out the fabric stores for the fabric that has a book that you sew, except you could frame the "pages" of the book and hang them on the wall.
You could also check out Wallies for the wallpaper cut-outs. They are easy to put up, and easy to take down - perfect for renters or dorms.
1] make big, stuffed, 'flat' jungle animals from the same colors as the quilt [ if quilt has red monkey, you make red monkey; if quilt has yellow lion, you make yellow lion, etc.]
2] make the babies name in stuffed letters
3] make wooden letters that spell out bedroom things like,
hush, little baby; now I lay me; night-night; etc.
4] make wooden toy train, trucks, etc in quilt colors for wall
5] Hang a kite in the quilt colors, pad a rocker in one of quilt colors, make a mobile for over the changing table.
