Upside-down outlets?

Question:My husband and I are having our new home built and they are almost finished... just out of curiosity, is there a reason there is an upside-down outlet in each of the rooms?

Answers:
i have that too. i have no idea why it is like that. it may just have to do with the way the wires had to go. ask someone who did it. they will know, or hopefully they will. if not, id check the wiring they did. :/ good luck.

the guy was probably dyslecsic or what ever sees things backwards
Some contractors and builders don't pay attention to the orientation of the outlet receptacles. I don't know of any specific reason that is done like that. I've had that experience, but it didn't give me much trouble. For the most part, I wouldn't worry about it.
No reason except perhaps lack of attention to detail.
Is it just one outlet in each room or all of them? I have heard that outlets in commercial buildings are installed upside down in the off chance that if a plug were not fully plugged in and something fell into the gap between the plug and the wall that it would land on the harmless ground wire instead of the hot wire.
There should be a switch in each room that will turn on that particular outlet. It's cheaper for them to put this in then a ceiling fan or light fixture. Then the home owner has to plug a lamp into this outlet, flip the switch and voila'...light. They put them upside down so it is identifiable from the rest of the outlets so you know which one to plug the lamp into. I hope though that they left you capped off access in all the ceilings for light fixtures eventually, otherwise these guys are really cheap and I would point this out when you do your walk through.
