Can I paint my bedroom set & if so how?

Question:My husband & I recently bought a bedroom set off of Ebay. And while it isn't exactly our style we've decided to make due with it. I would however like to darken in up a bit using paint. The set includes a headboard, long dresser, two mirrors and tall chest/armoire. The problem is that the set is made of half wood and half plastic. Odd! I know. The plastic decorative parts cannot be removed. Can I paint this set? Prime and spray paint it perhaps? And if so, what kind of paint do I use? Thanks in advance.

My hubby and I have painted veneer furniture to make it look for modern contemporary. Here is how we do it. First lightly sand. Then spray with that spray primer that looks terra cotta colored. After that is dry spray with flat black paint. Start at the edges making them dark and work your way toward the middle so that a little bit of the primer shows through. Let dry a little bit and then spray with a polyurathane varnish either in matt or gloss. While the poly is still wet lightly, very lightly brush with the grain back and forth to make it look a little like wood grain. It will be dark but a little lighter toward the middle parts of each peace. Go to some furniture stores and look at some of the dark wood peices to see what I mean.

Also I did this to a dresser that we use in our office. It is a piece from the '70s an very contemporary in style. It was already a medium colored wood but I applied a darker stain with a rag and let dry. Took a while though. After that I took another lighter stain and a rounded brush and dabbed the stain on. I would kinda swish the brush to give it a mottled /burled look. We have gotten a lot of complements on how pretty it is. Experiement, you never know what you will come up with

well there is a type of spray paint called krylon fusion. you can more than likely find it at most hardware stores and probably at any walmart. my mom and i used it on a wooden table a couple days ago. im not completely sure if it will work with plastic. but what the heck, give it a shot.
Your paint store will be able to advise you, but it sounds as if you're speaking about a laminate, and, if this is the case, there is a paint available now for painting such a surface. A fair bit of work involved, I believe, i.e. cleaning it thoroughly, there's a special base coat which must be applied first, and, from examples I've seen, it looks like a nice finish.
if i were you i would go to someplace like lows or home depot and ask their. or any wood work shop. (they would definitely know)
You sure can get a high end multi-surface spray paint from Home Depot-- they have several brands with different price points . Also I might upholster the head board as well for a more updated look... its super easy. All you need to do is wrap some foam around it then staple fabric of choice snugly towards the back so as not to show any staples.
Would take an awful lot of spray paint. May not be the best way to go. Get a good sealer/primer and cover all that is going to be painted. Then can paint in any color you like. Could paint the decorative parts in a different co-ordinating color.

If spray paint is what you want, go for it. Many new colors and types on the market. Spray with a primer first so that the paint will stick. Read the labels on these things. Some primers have a special type of finish that really makes the paint stick.

Experiment a little. Try different techniques. Many hardware stores have painting kits that can give you different types of finishes. Some have a special wood graining tool that really does give a wood grain look. This type of "faux" finishing is in right now.
