Painting floor trim and not get in on carpet?
Question:hi, am trying to paint the floor trim and i also had carpet i was wondering wut the best way to cover the carpet, but still be able to paint the trim w/ out getting any paint on the carpet.
Answers:
Your best option may be to remove the trim, paint it and reinstall it. It may be a little more work than you want to do but, you won't have to worry about your carpeting.
lay plastic over the carpet and tape it right at the wall, to the carpet not the trim, so the entire carpet is covered, and secured, but the trim is not affected
Heck with plastic that moves! I use a piece of cardboard cut straight that I can move when I do.
Try covering the floor with plastic. I'm not sure who would have it though. Hope it helps!
use plastic and tape by the tirm
You can use painters tape and tape the carpet off all the way around. Make sure you push it down real good where the carpet meets the baseboard. Don't pull the tape up until the paint has dried.
use something with a straight edge, like one of those wide putty spatula things (whatever they are called) and push it between the rug and the bottom of the trim, this will flatten down the nap so you can paint at or below the carpet line, and protect the rug as you paint, and just keep moving it along as you go. if it gets "painty" just wipe it off and go again.
put 2 inch masking tape down over the carpet, so you can paint the trim without damaging the carpet, do not remove the tape, until the paint is dry.
They carry an inexpensive tool at home depot... its about 18" to 2' long and suppresses the carpet in the area your painting... I find it's the easiest way... and you will use it again sometime...
