Contemporary kitchen cabinet color?
Question:I have a tan wall, light-colored countertops and floor, and stainless steel appliances in my kitchen. However, my cabinets have a terrible finish. I want to prime and paint them but I don't want to do the usual white paint. I considered black or brown. Any ideas? Has anyone ever seen cabinets that have been painted brown?

Paint them black and put several coats of clear over them to give them that modern looking glassy finish.
Get like a leathery black. It looks black but in the glare it will have a mahogany tone.

no,never have,hope not to either.you didn't say what kind of wood you have,or is it melamine on press board?Sand and stain on real wood that's not been painted before.Lots of colour choices.If previously painted,oh well,perhaps a trip to the paint store for paint colour samples,so you will be happy with your choice and the work involved is worth the extra research.
I would go with a nice paint of black. Black goes with everything and you can accessorize to tone it down.
There is a nice paint I got at Lowes that brushes on and leaves absolutely no paint brush marks. It dries to a satin sheen. No priming either.
It came in a smaller can...not a gallon can. I found it close to the chalkboard paint on the isle. Might ask about it if interested. I don't remember the name...sorry!
I then used a wax to rub on the coat of paint after it cured about 2 months later. The wax dried and I used a buffer to buff it out. The wood is hard like concrete and does not scratch or chip.
You can use some chrome handles to bring out the urban look.
