How do i describe the difference between white and ivory?
Question:my guy claims they are the same thing & it's driving me crazy!
Answers:
There are just some things that men dont get; paint colors being one of them. He'll just have to learn to take your word for it, but maybe if you got some paint samples and painted a patch side by side he might notice the difference.
Put them side by side and you can tell. Ivory is off-white.
Seriously, he may NEVER truly appreciate the difference!
Ivory is slightly tinted yellowish/brownish.

nah, not even close to the same color...white is an absence of color and ivory is just a little bit of tan mixed with white. go to home depot and get paint samples and show him the difference is very obvious and he can't argue with proof.
Ivory is 'old' white. It has a tinge of yellow and brown in it. It is not 'pure' white. Show him, You can't describe a color he hasn't seen.
Ivory is anywhere to a "bone" color to A light "cream" color, depending on each paint store..white, well is white..even though all whites will not touch up other whites. An ivory paint usuall has "raw sienna" and "burnt umber colorant in it ,where as white has none, and "sports" only the color from the white ground pigment in the paint. All pigments source from different paint companies are different, but white, thus this is why one white will not touch up another white. I have painted 37 years, starting with my uncles when i was at the age of 13, and back then we mixed alot of our own stains, made our own "colored" putties to match the stains instead of buying premade..and of course..if we enameled cabinets ivory, and needed to touch up a couple nail holes missed prior to painting..well..guess what...we added colorant to "white" putty to make ivory putty.
Ivory is what white looks like if it doesn't bathe.
