When renting, who's responsibility is it to pay for decorating?
Question:I am renting a flat with my Bloke anda few months ago our landlord said he wanted to decorate our bathroom and kitchen but we havent heard anything more about it since. We are currently in the process of giving it a proper clean and we would love to decorate but who would have to pay?
Answers:
Have a look in the Tenancy Agreement that you signed when you took over the property, it's usually the tenant who decorates, but you must seek permission from the landlord.
you, whoever is renting
i don't think you can decorate at all it's down to the landlord contact him and ask if he thought any more about decorating it might give him a nudge to do something about it. xx
you are!
Hiya,
I am a landlady and your landlord should pay but bear in mind as we are in business he prob will spend the least he can. If any of my houses need decorating I pay and the tenants top it up if they want.
With my houses I decorate them prior to the new tennat moving in. In the contracts it states they can redecorate at their cost but it must be returned to the original paint scheme.
Some land lords allow the occupants to redecorate, as ong as it is an 'improvement' If you get ideas and colour samples etc and show these to them, an equal decision can be made.
Lanlords are resonsible for water, gas and electricity failures within the place, such as leaks, or plug that doesnt seem to work etc.
You don't own your apartment so you would not be allowed to make structural changes in it. Your landlord I'm sure doesn't want to "decorate" the two rooms..he wants to "update" them with new fixtures, appliances or cabinets and such. You are allowed to "decorate" them afterward with any towels, dishes, pictures, you would like.
Landlord always pays. Why not suggest that you decorate the room on condition that he gives you a week's free rent. Get it in writing.
