How can you paint a garage floor?
Question:Our 2 car garage has paint and gunk splattered all over it. We just bought the house.
How can I make the garage floor look nice and clean?
What can I clean it with?
Do I need to prime it?

there r two type of garage floor paint latex or oil base..u what latex,and no u do not need to prime it. i just did the floors in my business,whick i am a mech... what u need to do is wash the floor with a degreaser ,and let it dry a full 24 hours...then u can paint it..u can get the paint at homedepot or any hardware store there r some paint that u can throw sand on it just before it dries to make it not so slipery when water
use t.s.p. (trisodium phosphate ) to clean it and a power washer to remove any lingering grease. then use a good quality garage paint..two coats should be good..

there is a special paint for garage floors i thinck you can get it at home depo or posibly walmart

You'll want to run a scraper over the floor to knock off any "tall" gunk. Then clean it with a degreaser such as TSP. There are special garage floor epoxy paints but they can be expensive. You can use house paint, just be sure to cast a light coat of sand accross it before it's dry. The sand makes a good non-skid surface.
degreas and acid etch the floor and apply a couple of coats of waterborn epoxy garage floor paint (with or without the speckles) available at most paint outlets (coronado comes to mind, but porter and i think sherwin williams also have a line of such a product, and the crew in the stores are knowlegable about the product they sell)
First wash/scrub the floor. Then strip the floor using a solvent-based stripper. Etch the floor using a muriatic acid/water mix. Apply an epoxy-based floor paint.
