Psychotic with design rents a 35-square-meters studio. Help save room! (me moving out is not an option)?

Question:i recently entered college life in Greece and rented a small studio. i was used to having a large room but i had been trying to be realistic about my future home. it really looks small just this instant, being empty! how can i save space and which color would make it look wider? do mirrors work?

Answers:
Go with the lightest color you can whites, yellows, etc. The lighter colors will increase light and decrease shadows making the room seem larger. Mirrors can increase the appearance of space but this can easily be overdone. Just select spaces that you would normally look up into head on to increase the appearance of space. They'll also increase the light in the room if needed if placed near a window that receives direct light during the daytime. You should also streamline your decor, the less the better when trying to create an atmosphere of space. Too much stuff in a small space always just looks like it sounds. Anywho, good luck w/ your college career and enjoy the beautiful times you'll have in Greece and college ; )

Paint it a light color as dark colors will make the room appear smaller. Use shelving, either units or mounted on wall, for book storage. Utilize the space under your bed for storage. Hang a second rod in your closet (halfway between existing rod and floor).

And yes.mirrors do make a room appear larger.
Bookcases and desk should be necessities. I think a Futon would give double duty as a bed and seating. Do you need a wardrobe or are there closets or cupboards? Is there someplace like an IKEA there? Furniture that serves more than one purpose gives you more versatility . Ask others in College where they found their furnishings.

Use colors that make you feel good. Lighter tones of any color make a space seem larger. Lighting is also important as well as the position of windows. Are you a day or night person? Check out what places make you feel you have lots of room and what makes you feel closed in.
paint it white enamel
use a futon, it folds out to a bed at nite and you can sit on it as a sort of couch by day, put a card table infront of it and you have a dining room and a desk to study at when the dishes are cleared
don't fret badly, i lived in a small studio back in the late 60's and i survived with out loosing too much of my mind.
