What color should I paint my hallway?

Question:It's a small hallway, I also want to paint my kitchen the last people painted it yellow and the cabinets are the same color, I want a color that will make it pop, cause it's a small kitchen, and the counter tops are black, please help.

Answers:
For the hallway color, keep one wall white and paint the other color different..an "accent wall". You can do a simple paint job (one color) or go for something a little more bold (like a leather look).

If you want to do the "simple paint" job, pick a color that you absolutely LOVE but might not want to do an entire room of.a bold red would be nice, eggplant, grey, tan..just about any color. Again, keep the other wall white. This will give you the color you want, yet not make you feel boxed in.

If you want to go for a leather look, you do not need to buy the fancy brushes that cost a fortune. Let's say you want to do a medium leather look..paint one wall in a tan/light brown color, using 2 coats of semi-gloss. Once that has dried, use a glaze of a dark brown (you can have this made or buy a SMALL pint of pre-made glaze). Working from top to bottom in sections of about a foot or 2 (depends on how fast you work or if you have help). Using a cheap 4 inch brush, criss-cross the glaze. While the glaze is still wet, use plastic wrap (like Saran Wrap)---take a large section of wrap, crumble it up in your hands, open it up and smooth it on the glaze. Once you have smoothed it on your wall, gentley remove it. The wrinkles in the wrap will give the walls the "leather look". Repeat this process for the entire wall---but make sure to keep the edges of the glaze wet as you are working! It can be time consuming, but the end results are worth it. If you are unhappy with how the glaze looks, you can wash it off while the glaze is still wet. Remember.its "only" paint! You can always paint over it!

As for the kitchen.I think kitchens are best with "spice" colors.think paprika, cumin, saffron, coffee, cinnamon.colors like that. You can do the walls in a paprika color and then the cabinets in a latte color. Another thing you can do is use some of that glaze left over from your "leather wall" and put that on the latte colored cabinets. Brush on and then wipe some of it off. It will give your cabinets an antiqued look and the best part is that it hides any imperfections and dirt!

It truly helps if you have pictures..if you have some, post them and I can give you a better idea of what could work for you!

And always remember.its only paint!

white iz always good but its not a pop white just goes with everything
go for a natural color...that always opens up a foom:)
I think with the black counter top a nice icy blue would look great and use 2 shades in the kitchen (do cupboards 2 shades darker than the walls) something like Benjamin Moore; yarmouth blue HC-150 (walls) with jamestown blue HC-148 (cabinets) and hemp seed cc-578 (hallway)
I recently painted my bathroom a very dark blue and did all the cabinets, woodwork and trim in vivid white. It looks very sharp! I believe I only got away with the dark blue color because I put tons of white in. Then I put up a couple of pictures in white frames. It really snaps. I also used a white curtain and white shower curtain.
The bottom line is that by using white woodwork, cabinets, ceiling and trim, you can go with any color! Even a dark color.
I think you should try white for all your cabinets and trim, put up white mini-blinds and white valances over your kitchen windows, and then paint the wall any color you like.
Best wishes.
I would pick a color that blends in with the rest of your house. You want the hall to tie everything together. For example if your house has warm colors like reds and golds don't pick blue. Go get swatches and take them home and pick your favorite.
