You know what, my boyfriend and I just purchased a place together and almost everything in our house came from Walmart, garage sales, goodwill and menards...nobody knows where any of it came from because we make it all look really tasteful. So just keep an eye out for garage sales and check local thrift shops, and watch the sales at your local stores and you're bound to find things...don't try too hard and take your time, that's part of the fun of decorating...it could be something that goes on and on and on.
we got all four colors of our paint from walmart for about 10 bucks a gallon..and it's gorgeous on our walls. Get a new comforter, grab some of the paint swatches and start putting them together and seeing which ones you like with the comforter

Goodwill is a great place and try to find fixer-upers at garadge sales and possibly junk yards or cool stuff in your garadge
well i don`t know because i live in framingham but a good place to shop is a mall or online.
