Question:what is resin wicker? I want to get my mom a wicker patio set for her birthday, she's been talking about getting the sets that look like wicker but is a hard metal. I'm just trying to figure out which is which.
Answers:
Resin wicker is plastic poured into a mold to make it look like wicker. Im unsure what the metal wicker is called but that is also not real wicker. Good luck

I love resin wicker and have a dining and living room set made of it on my patio. It is also known as all weather wicker in some stores, but it is "reeds" or long strands of resin that are shaped, molded and woven just like wicker is on either a steel or aluminum frame. The beauty of it is that it can be kept outside all season without falling apart like real wicker does when exposed to the elements.
Resin wicker is a fancy term for plastic that resembles wicker. I've never seen any metal made into wicker.
I think I would stick with the original if I could possibly afford it. There are wicker outlets that are not too expensive. I have yet to have any plastic patio furniture hold up to the weather. Also over time, plastic develops a certain smell that I don't care for.
And I have personally witnessed two episodes of where people sitting comfortably in their plastic chairs when the leg just snaps and the person hits the floor. Very scary!
Resin is a polyester that can be mixed with natural fibers to take on new looks. Resin is sometimes mixed with wood/wicker so it really looks like real wicker. But at the end of the day, it's a plastic and keep in mind- they do fade in direct sunlight like most plastic objects.
