What are some cheap ways to decorate my apartment?
Question:I'm in college and looking for cheap ways to decorate, especially the walls. They're plain white and not allowed to paint them bc I rent. Please help with ideas bc it looks too plain here!
Answers:
can you hang things on walls?
Get a big canvas or just whatever size you want it to be. Paint it the color that you would paint the walls if you could. Then hang them on the walls. That way the walls are not so plain.
make photo collages. go to target! they have really neat stuff for dorms
go to the party store and buy some stuff also go to walmart and get some wallpaper. get creativemabe get really big white wall paper and paint that!! just ideas!
buy pictures to hang & shelves if you can & place what knots & such...posters, stuff with color
I had the same problem not being able to paint the walls. I bought a huge mirror at Costco, some curtains and a rug on sale at Pier One, and a lot of plants and pictures from Target and Wal-Mart. In my area we also have a store called Kirklands that has very cute stuff for great prices.
go to your local thrift stores and rummage sales and see what kind of things you can get.
You CAN paint the walls, you just have to repaint them before you leave... However, since you are in college, you are probably not talking long-range living..
Go to garage sales and resale shops and look for pictures in very cool frames. Discard the pictures. Buy yourself a basic digital camera and go on "field trips" taking photos of things that please you. Load these onto your computer and play with cropping, effects, black and white, etc. until you are happy with what you created. Save the photo onto a CD and go online and find a place that will blow it up to size for a reasonable price. Check with Walgreen's, CVS, Target and Kmart for comparison pricing.
Arrange a "gallery" of your work on any full walls you may have. I have done this with a hallway and it looks awesome!! I have the frames all touching each other, 3 frames high, all different kinds, but I painted the frames all the same color. I can change them out anytime I want to. It gives me great pleasure to see the faces, stills, animals and think of the time and place I took them.
Fill corners with plants and be creative!! I took an old weathered pot ( it was BIG!) and found an old wrought iron "thingy" that I wound fake ivy on. It looks like an expensive topiary! It cost little to nothing with garage sale finds, a little imagination and some moss I glued around the top of the pot.
Consider displaying a collection. CDs work great as wall art! Either on shelving placed close together but at different heights, or buy a few CD towers and group them together.
Purses (small ones!) also make great wall art. I have a rack with pegs on it (looks like a diamond pattern and can be stretched) out of wood that I hang antique purses on. I even had some plexiglass cut to fit across two of them so that I can sit a few purse on the "shelves" I created...
Magazines and magazine covers make a nice, mod statement, when framed also...
Hope some of this helps you out!
It depends on what you like.. Considering I am a hippy I LOVE tapestries and there are some really nice ones out there. My best ones came from California. I also seen on HGTV (I think or TLC), someone found nice wallpaper that they really liked but didn't want wallpaper on the walls so they framed it.. It looked really nice! They also said you could do that with a cool fabric. It is really easy to do. You could also go to eBay and just start looking for some cheap wall art.. Garage & yard sales and goodwills would be good sources for cheap nice wall art. GL and have fun with it!
Go to a discount store and buy a bunch of old records. Use the "putty" stuff (no holes in walls!) to hang them all over the walls with some records alone and some "falling" out of the sleeves.
My sister did this (even on the ceiling) in her pool room.
find a rich boy friend, to help you with the decoration.
dont use wall paper put photos or pictures on the wall and use light colors in ur appartment to blend in with the white
