Help! We were given black leather furniture... I really like contempary and country styles., What do I do?
Question:How do I make my house a home and not a bachelor pad with this furniture? I need something girly! Thinking about red walls.what other themes could I do?
Answers:
I think if you paint the walls red with the black leather you will be creating a more contemporary room. Maybe you could use a beige, gold or sage tone on the walls. Then you could bring in red accents or even blue. Look at the historical colors and try to work with those. It is difficult to get a country style from the contemporary style black leather. It is what it is. Otherwise, you will need to put out more money to make it a county style. But, I don't think you really need to.
You might just have to compromise. I don't know what your monetary means are so if the furniture must stay, work around it. Good luck.
A quick, relatively inexpensive fix, is slip covers for the furniture!
If you go with the red walls, only make one wall red-the focus wall. This could be the wall behind the couch or and end wall of the room. Red can be carried out in toss pillows, vases, etc. Just don't use too much of the red. (It will drive you crazy after awhile, if overused!)
Add some pillows, afghan, a homemade quilt.
Sell the black leather furniture and buy something that you really want. If you don't like the leather furniture now, you surely won't like it any more over the next five or ten years. (And we all know that the stuff you don't like lasts forever!)
Get what you really want now and start your themes and colors from there - :)
eggshell or white would look good.or give the black away an buy something u like better.good luck
if you have to keep the black furniture, then i think you should go with what it is. if you try to do country, it will be just a mismatch no matter how many quilts or throws or white lacy curtains you might throw at it. but contempary can easily be accomplished with the furniture. I personally would not care for red walls with black furniture. However, if you painted the walls a nice brown or green khaki shade then used red accents (like the inside of book shelves, or even on the ceiling and a few other red accents, like a vase of large red peonies or tulips and white trim on the windows (etc), then put up brown woven shades on the windows, the room would be very warm and inviting.
Not sure about the red walls as black is a dominating color. Maybe sage green walls with assorted throw pillows of various designs of sage green, black and white. Hang black shelves on the walls with white, black, sage green and maybe a splash of red decor. The curtains would be nice if they were sheers of a color coordinating the decor. You can use a large vase filled with green apples as a decoration. Maybe somewhere in the room have a zebra print. And do not forget candles and candle holders.
