Whats the advantages /disadvantages of building a house.?
Question:framing with metal studs vs wood. Is it cheaper?
Answers:
Basically this:
Wood:
Advantage - price
Disadvantage - strength
Steel:
Advantage - strength
Disadvantage - price
Most houses don't need steel frames unless you live in tornado alley or something. Assuming the craftmanship is good, of course.
well you wouldnt be able to nail ne thing into these metal studs. wood would most likely be cheaper, but harder to maintain, which is pretty easy in the first place
Actually the metal studs, will save u some cash cuz its easier to install. Thus cutting down on your labor cost..and its termite free!
Use WOOD
Metal is alright for offices that are going to re and re'd every 5 years or for the bulkheads around hvac ducting
but your building a home, stick to wood and concrete
If you live in termite infested area make sure you treat for them and any other problem vermin
I'm not sure of the cost, with both but as far as metal studs. goes pros: less likely to get termite damage.
cons: depending on where you live, rust could be a major factor. think about it if you get a slow leak in the wall from the pipe next to a stud, over time it rust, and rust can be a problem
Wood~
Pros. Sturdier less likely to buckle. treated wood. easier to nail a nail in the wall to hang a pick :)
Cons: termites are inevitable, after years and years.. mold can be an issue when you get a flood or spring a leak.
personally i think wood would be easier and better
