What is the easiest way to match stain colors on a damage piece of furniture?
Question:We bought a damage china cabinet and I am trying to fix it. We repaired the spot and sanded it down but now I have to stain the wood. What the best way to go about matching so it doesn't look patchy?
(Stripping the whole piece is out of the question.)
Answers:
Go to the hardware store and get swatches of wood stain. bring them back and try to find the closest color. Also, for slight marks and scratches, try rubbing some mayonnaise on the spot - Works like a charm.
I agree with person above, except I use olive oil instead of mayo.
If it's not too large, you can try markers! Start with the lighter color and go after that.
They also sell wood colored markers specially labeled to cover up small scratches and even faux wood.
Good luck
