It depends on how you're going to use it. Porcelain is lovely, but it is fragile. If you're going to use it for formal occasions, it's a great choice. For everyday use, especially if you have children, I'd go with the stoneware.
a set of porcelin bcos it gives u a rich look beautiful
I love some of the patterns and colors of stoneware now a days, but I hate how heavy it is.
I have corelle, stoneware and china. I use the corelle at the pool and patio...I use the stoneware for everyday indoor dining and I use the china when I am entertaining, Sunday dinners and occasions.
day to day: stone
Fancy: Porcelain

stone will stand up to the daily rigors of everyday use. it is less likely to chip and colors will withstand repeated washing.

Porcelain is much finer and delicate. it is thinner and seems more elegant for those special occasions. pocelain is also typically more ornate and designed with fancier setting in mind.

I guess it all depends on how you intend to use it.
Stoneware is better, It's inexpensive, dishwasher and microwave safe and you can get a variety of patterns that can look like porcelain. I say inexpensive not to downplay finances but to say that you can change patterns in a couple of years if you get tired of the same old pattern and it won't be a big deal.
I f its a really special dinner set for special occasions id say porcelain, its so delicate and beautifully painted, classy but comes with a price. If its every day stuff you want its gotta be stoneware. Dishwasher and microwave friendly, a lot more practical and affordable.
Porcelain is lighter and dressier. If you hold it up to the light you can even see through it. It is also rather delicate. You cannot put it in the microwave or oven. Porcelain is a traditional dinner set.
On the other hand, stone ware is very durable. You can generally put it in the microwave and oven. It tends to be heavy but can be very modern looking in style.
I have both but use my stone ware a lot more.
Fine bonechina...

I have tried the two and my experience tells me that OF COURSE porcelain is best. Why ? Probably because stone has a strong presence and for some, can denature the food , it is also less common and novelty always tends to scare and then again the food itself, as good it is, is forgotten. Porcelain on the other side has this refined feeling that can bring a plus to the food. It makes things more comfortable !!
it depends on your own aesthetics really, however porcelain (or even better bone china) tends to be more expensive to make, so it can have more prestige. But a lot of a product's "value" can come from the amount of handwork involved in its production, so a hand-crafted stoneware might be preferable to mass-produced porcelain whose decor was applied by mass-produced transfers instead of being hand-painted.
Porcelain. We have a stone set, and it looks horrible now, its chips sooo easily!!
Stone is proberbly better for every day dinner set it is stronger but for special dinners Porcelain is more delicate and looks niceer.
