Move a light fixture?

Question:My living and dining are one big room. Unfortunately the light fixture is in the middle of the room and I would like to move it about 4 feet so that it is centered over the dining room table. Any ideas on how it can be done without breaking the ceiling? Thanks

Answers:
The most difficult part is locating the beam in the ceiling over where your table center is.
1- You will probably need to move the table a bit to the N,S,E or W to center the fixture.
2- The kit you want I think is called a swage kit.
3- After removing the fixture, you wire in the kit to the same box where the fixture was connected. Attach the cover and new chain with wire.
4- Make a gentle slope with the wired chain to the new location and hang the fixture from the hook that you have screwed into the beam through the ceiling which will support the weight of the fixture.
5- The wire and chain can be adjusted for length and slope by cutting the wire and/or adding or removing links.
(they come in different colors, smooth or braided design and decorative hooks and electrical box covers)
Good Luck ! ! !

to install a drop light/pendant there is no option but to feed the lighting cable through a new hole in the ceiling or what about track lighting, connect to existing cable and use halogen lights on a track with a live to the end, no holes req's
Moving a light fixture is a snap if you have an attic area above. You simply go into the attic, find the fixture, pull it up into the attic, find the place you want to put it, cut your hole in the ceiling near a ceiling stud and install it from there. If you don't have attic space, and you will have to do it all from inside your house, it gets a lot harder. You will have to drill the holes into the celing where you want your new fixture to be and make it large enough that you can reach up into the space and pull the existing fixture to it.
In both cases, if the electrical cords are not long enough you will need to have the help of an electrician. Good Luck!
it depends on whats over the room... if there is attic space above you can go up there and moove it really easily ... if not then you have to make at least some holes in the ceiling and it also depends on which direction the studs in the ceiling run if the studs run in the same direction you are running the wire then its not a big deal if they run opposite as in a large room I would imagine they would there is no easy way to moove the wires as you have to put a hole in each stud to get the wire through and in turn would have to take down the ceiling in order to do that...unless you run new wire from a different place all togther but you will still have to make holes in the walls and ceiling to get the wire through there so its a matter of what works best for you... further more if your planning on putting up a chandelier you might need to use a box that is attached to the studs to support the weight so you have to think about that as well because you would have to make a hole and patch it as well... if you have any further questions feel free to send me a message or e-mail
