Basement "Window" Ideas?
Question:Hi! We have a finished basement, and it seems like I overheard someone talking about tricks to make your basement look like it has "windows" (Like the kind you'd find upstairs). One possibility may involve mirrors?
Can anyone tell me any ideas to make your basement windows look like upstairs windows? I'd LOVE ideas that include pictures!!
Any other ideas to make basements seem less like basements are welcome!
Thanks!
Answers:
old framed windows w/ a scenery print/poster behind it... then put drapes/curtains/valance over it.
u can also paint a window then cover it. Put u'r print up then paint a window over it then put u'r drapes.
Mirrors would make the room look larger but it won't give it the window/outdoor look if that's what u'r going for.
Just hanging drapes ceiling to floor will give the apperance that there is a window behind it.

I found this on DIY click on the source below and it will show you anwsers...hope this helps. When you get to DIY look at figure G and # 10.
I'd suggest wall-art, if you do some searching around, you should be able to find something appropriate. A large wall-art piece tiled against an entire wall can create the perfect illusion.

whether you have a window in the basement or not you could install a long piece of wood and then attach your rod and curtains to it. You could make that pretend window as large as you want. Remember that white enlarges things, so the curtains could be a bright white. If the basement has that closed-in feeling you can buy a mural (even plastic coated and attach it to the wall behind the curtains) and it will look like you are looking out into a garden when the curtains are open.
I can only recommend window vista.
