I am painting my staircase and trying to remove the hand rails and 1 screw in each bracket is stuck!!?
Question:I have tried my electric skrewdriver BUT they don't budge!!Help
Answers:
If the screw is turning but not coming out, the easyest thing to do is get a screwdriver, or just pull the rail towards you as you turn. If it won't turn at all, try a screwdriver that's slightly too big for the screw, and bang it with a hammer into the screw head.
when you push it back, you break it loose, so you should be able to turn it then.
You have stripped the threads in the screw or the "head" of the screw is stripped.
You need to get a pair of pliers and then try turning the screw with it.
It's also possible that the old paint has built up around the screw and it needs to be scraped off the head or around the area it meets the wall.
If all else fails rip the sucker off the wall and patch the hole then, when reattaching it move a few inches away.
Good luck it's a real pain in the A**
another possibility is that the weight from the rail is pulling on the screw as you try to take it off. Have someone hold the rail while your unscrewing it.
When I have a problem like I think you are having I use my dremel tool to "grind" the screw head off. Then when I replace the part I make sure I put the new screw in a little different place. This works fast and easy.
