My daughter's bedroom used to be blue and now I am painting it pink. I was advised to use a white primer,

Question:I was advised to use a white primer, and then use the pink paint. I applied the primer once, but it's not white as snow. I can still see that it used to be blue -barely, but I can.

My firs question is: When I use the light pink paint (I plan on appling 2 coats, is the wall color goint to be lilac, or it will be the pink collor that I want?

Do you advise me to apply another coat of primer until the walls are white-white?

One more question: I've seen bedrooms with the the closet doors and the inside of the doors and the window frames painted the same collor as the walls. It it the way it should be done? Or should I keep them white?

Thank you for your help
Ellie

I would suggest putting another coat of primer on the walls. It will help your paint stick better and prevent the blue from ever seeping through.

As for painting the closets, it's your personal preference. If you want the room to look uniform, paint the inside of the closets the same color as your walls. I would advise against painting the doors and trims the same color as the walls. Keep the trim and doors uniform throughout the whole house - it makes it look much neater.

Get your primer tinted the same color as your paint
good answer
Let's work backwards through your questions. Painting the closet and the doors is personal preference. What ever makes you happy is right.
Primer. Absolutely. After the walls are washed down to remove any candle residue or hairspray or perfume or whatever may have clung to them. Applying a coat of primer insures that you don't have to go and get more paint to cover where the lighter color wasn't strong enough to cover the bolder darker color.
You will have a beautiful room I'm sure.
Good luck
I had a navy blue room I inherited from the previous owner. My primer wasn't 'white white' either. I painted sage and (on other walls) a light plum color. They turned out beautifully.

So - you don't need to do another coat of primer. Your walls will be pink.

keep the doors/windows white, it will be a very pretty contrast to the pink.
yes, you should always make sure the walls are white before applying colored paint. I have painted my room many times, and results aren't always pretty if there's only one coat of primer under paint.
Use a second coat of primer so that you can't see the blue then put on the pink. Personally I like the look of white doors/closets accenting the pink walls. For a child's room I'd use satin sheen on the walls, it's easy to clean and makes the walls look happier.
It all depends on how dark the blue was, but one coat of primer should be sufficient if you already planned on 2 coats of the pink. Just don’t spread the pink too thin with each application. It is usually best to ask for your primer to be tinted to match the top coat, especially if you are painting over, or applying, a vivid color, but it is not always necessary

As for the closet doors and frames – I’d advise you to keep them white. It is very time consuming to paint them to match every time you decide change the wall color.
Applying white primer ensures that you get an accurate color.
primer 2 coats, & keep the frames white
i have expirenced the same kind of painting dilima as a matter of fact! the very best way to get the same color and shade on the wall as in the can is to first lay down a nice coat of primer to neutralize the existing color. Then the important next step to guarantee the color you chose is to then lay down a coat of white paint, where the very best results is to use a satin white, even a flat white is acceptable but never a gloss white cause if you do you will expirence peeling of paint in a short amount of time. last, finish with the prefeered color of your choice!
I would keep your doors and trim white.
Just so you know, my daughter's room is pink too. I have painted quite a few rooms for friends and family and I can tell you that your wall will not turn out lilac. The colors do not blend once the paint is dry. I would have advised you to tint the primer the color of the paint but since you already have a primer coat you do not need another. Primer improves adhesion; that's it. It is a lot easier to do this than really clean the wall surface for the new paint. I advise that you just start painting. If you have not bought the final coat paint color be sure to use a quality paint. I use Valuespar from Lowes or Behr from HD. If the blue is dark you may need a third coat but I have only had to do that when covering red.
As for the painting of the closets and their doors, that is a style choice. I left the doors white since all of the painted doors in my house are white but I painted the inside of the closet. In the end it may be a choice based upon how much energy you have left for the project.
Good luck.
