Painting a feature wall?

Question:I have decided to paint one wall in my bedroom a different colour to the other three walls, I've seen this effect in many magazines and it looks great. The question I have is do I paint the one darker wall first or the three lighter walls first? Also how do I get a perfect straight line in the corners? I don't want to end up with it looking messy.

Answers:
I would paint the lighter walls first, you can always overlap into the corners of the feature wall as this will be covered over (with darker paint), and help to get a better definition. A real steady hand and a small (say 1" brush) to cut in at the feature wall edges with the feature colour. This should help to give a nice edge. You can also buy 'cutting in' brushes small 1/2 inch sloping ends with longer thin handles to help with details. Take your time. You should let the lighter walls dry well. If you go over with the darker paint, quickly wipe off with a damp jaycloth.
If you paint the feature first you basically have to cut in the feature colour neaty and then do the same with the lighter colour, doubling your precise work, very labour intensive.
Have fun, I'm sure you'll get a great result. I have done this in two of my rooms and really like it. The key is to get colours that really compliment each other.
Good luck.

Paint lighter walls first - dark paint covers light paint easier - Straight lines - two ways - STEADY HAND or the light tack masking tape - it is masking tape but it has very little sticking power - just get you line and paint and remove. Available from most DIY stores for about £2
i would paint the lighter walls first and to get the straight line use a spunge brush and panters tape
I don't think it matters which you do first, but my suggestions is to use painters tape (blue cause it won't peel off paint when removing- believe me from experience) to make a straight line in corner or when painting around molding or anything else you don't want to get paint on. Just make sure your tape is firmly stuck because if put loosely your paint may run underneath tape and then oops.(from experience) After paint dries, remove tape for a crisp, straight line. Happy Painting!
