I would go with one of the deeper shades in your carpeting, and have very long pooling curtain panels in a soft silk fabric..
take color swatches and check them with your lighting, and walls before you buy!
you can buy large 18"x18" sample chips of paint color from benjamin moore. they are about 4 dollars each but they give you a better sense of if the color will work with your room. a small price well worth the investment. you can also take the mega chip with you to curtain stores and hold it against the fabric to see how the colors react with each other. the reverse is also true. you can take a medium or even a large piece of fabric to a paint store.
i don't use those little paint chips too often. i mean sometimes i do but unfortunately they can be very misleading!
