Wall paper steamers. Best method for using one.?
Question:I've had to resort to the steamer since all other methods have failed. Any advice when using a steamer?

Removing wallpaper is always a messy tedious job. Yes, score the paper, about three inches apart max. You can use a razorblade (don't score the plaster too). You have to stand there and hold the thing in place until it is really gooey, which is tedious again. So plan on singing a few tunes while you are standing there with one arm raised and getting tired.
Then use a putty knife to scrape the wallpaper off. Then wash the walls with vinegar and water.
The steamer won't get into the corners, unfortunately...you have to use really hot water and vinegar there.
There's a product on the market for wallpaper --dif--removal if the vinegar isn't enough, like in cases where the paper has been on the walls forever and a day.
If the wallpaper separates, the top layer comes off without the underlayer, then you're not standing there long enough before you try to peel, or you didn't score it well.
Don't listen to that guy that paints over wallpaper! It will just be somebody else's nightmare down the road, and it will never look nice.
I used on a couple of years ago, first you score the paper with a roller that has spikes in it, then use the steamer on the paper that you want to remove. Comes off VERY easy. After using it that time I would use it again. NICE>.. (here I thought it was going to be a job and 1/2.)
I quit removing wall paper years ago because it can be a nightmare So what I do is prime the paper with ahigh quality fast dry primer Caulk the top(ceiling) and baseboard.around doors window etc.. then float the seams with joint compound and retexture and then paint this is the best way... ive done steamers enzymes and everythig else under the sun ... just encapsulate it ... you can try the steamer sometimes it works sometimes it dont good luck from Texas
