Nubuck Furniture (Brushed Leather)?
Question:I have Nubuck, or brushed leather furniture. I know I can not use leather conditioner on the furniture, and I am aware of Nubuck cleaning solutions. But are there any care products or care tips I should be aware of for long term care?
Answers:
Nubuck is a lovely product but is a high maintenance product. It is not suede and needs treating slightly differently. As you rightly say you cannot use conditioners or the regular leather protectors on it as it will trun it black but it needs to be regularly cleaned and protected to keep it looking good.
All new Nubuck should be treated with LTT Waterstop which is a very effective protector but needs using on a regular basis.
Then once a month you need to use a napping brush to restore the pile and a Nubuck cloth to remove any soiling.
You need to do this to ensure you guard against any build up of oils (ie body oils on the head or arms) as these will appear as dark patches and will be difficult to remedy. Use waterstop after every clean.
You can hoover Nubuck to remove any surface dust etc but do this with caution as the nozzle can sometimes cause scratch marks which are impossible to remedy.
Unfortunatley if these processes are not followed your nubuck could look wrecked in a very short tiem and could be expensive to remedy.
If it is real suede, check out stores that sell shoe care products. They sell suede cleaners and brushes. Suede should be brushed occasionally and vacuumed regularly to avoid dust from getting imbedded into it. I don't know of any treatments that will "maintain" suede, but they may be out there. Good luck.
