I am putting in a new shower. I know I need greenboard on my walls. Do I need it on the ceiling of the shower?

Question:

Answers:
No, regular wall board is used on ceilings. A good oil base primer should be used before painting. This provides the best moisture barrier. Latex or oil paint may be applied over an oil base interior primer. Good luck!

Code doesn't allow green board any more for a good reason, backer board is much better and not much more money. Can't put green board on the ceiling, it will sag. Regular gypsum board ought to be fine there.
Won't hurt, could help but I wouldn't bust a hole in the ceiling to put it up there. It should be fine unless your shower fixture is hanging from the ceiling.
Steve is right...you need cement backer board like Dura Rock on the walls. Green board is only good for places with minimal moisture like backsplashes.
