Darkening the woodstain on a formica desk?

Question:Hi, I've got a maple wood desk made of maple formica and wanted to change it to antique pine. Is it possible to use woodstain or wax to darken the colour?

wax wont work, but you could sand it down a bit (wearing a mask) and use some antique pine varnish or one of those kitchen cupboard paints that they have in diy stores

Probably not. Formica is a plastic laminate, not wood. Stain will bead up and will not adhere. You would have to remove the formica and replace it with a lighter wood color. If the desk was inexpensive, you're better off just getting another one in the color you want.
