I like retro, maybe something from the 60's or 70's, but don't go overboard.
I would look for accessories that you love first...I did a room egyptian and got some cool stuff from San Diego in our mall. And I got some lovely animal print fabric (african animals) that I made pillows for in a kids room.pick a colour from the object and if you love the object you should love the colour. I did a 'survivor room for my nieces and nephews to enjoy a few years ago and I got the accessories first.grass mats for the wall, torches that we painted, fabric that we painted as flags, I think the accessories first is the way to decorate around your room, I think it is silly to do a bedroom african then be unable to get a bed spread to match the room.
