I am about to change the colour of my son"s bedroom, he said that he is leaving it up to me .?
Question:He said he doesn't really mind which colour I choose, but it has always been blue and I would like to make it a little more modern. His furniture is beech and his bed is beech with metal trims. Any ideas? (he is 17)
Answers:
Be glad he's straight. A gay kid would have decorated the room himself. Now buy him a car and some porn. You are going to be a grandmother in 8 years.
pink and mauve and scare him to death
red is quite nice...or a soft green?...bit more grown up,but at 17 you dont want to make it to cosy or he will never leave!lol
grey...
Camoflauge is Awesome! I would recomend with the color of his bed a gray and white camo.
Tan with one orange wall, to set off the beech furniture. It's masculine, it's modern, and it's lively. If he doesn't like it, invite him to be more active in the selection process and in the re-painting process.
Try a soft green or grey .or go neutral and get some different coloured bedding and curtains.
You could always go for cream walls (nice and neutral, matches the furnature and there's nothing to particularly dislike about it) and accent it with various bits and pieces around the room in maybe a pastel red, blue or green or other such neutral colour (not too bright). For example, the curtains, a single wall, carpets, bedspreads. It's entirely up to you and your son what colours you go for - but it's a safe option, you can't really go wrong with it and it's quite mature.
You could always check out colour schemes at:

It was made for graphics and web design as far as I can see, but why not apply it to anything? You could always print them off and take it to one of those stores that do custom colour mixing.
Good luck!
You could go with a copper to golden color slightly darker than the light beech wood for a dramatic look and then brighten it up with lighter colored bedding fabrics.
I think something on the red to copper side would really look rich and nice even if you tone it down and don't go for bold dark colors..
Then use bedding in a muted blue color, perhaps with a coppery pattern.
You need to have a color that goes in a CONTRAST with the beech color, but simultaneously, to go in harmony with it,,,
The way I see it is that you need to switch to DEEP COLORS, but not necessarily DARK in nature...
Talking modern means doing it to the latest tastes nowadays, which is:
Simply do each wall with a different Color.
So u end up with Four colors in a Room Walls...
You could again choose a color with its derivative other shades of that color; meaning to ranging it from dark to medium to less than medium to light of that certain color.
Best thing to do is to get a Color Fan from any of those shops selling Paints & Accessories...
Finally, I prefer that you go with Water-Based Emulsion Paint with a SILK or EGGSHELL FINISH...
That is it...
Think of Green, Navy Blue, Medium Brown & Mauve as a starting shade, from which a family of such colors can be selected for four shades
honey butter yellow by olympic paints is a beautiful grown-up yellow. trim out in glossy white paint if there are moldings and window trims. accent colors of tomato red, olive green and tan or khaki. a striped bed spread in these colors would look terrific. sissal rug on the floor. yummy.
