Any idea's for making a laundry room upbeat and fun? I'm looking to repaint and decorate.?

Question:I saw in a book to paint the walls like grass on the bottom with blue sky going up and "laundry hanging on the line". Before I go ahead with it I want to see if anyone has any other ideas. I'm not shy with color. I have two decent size walls to work with the other walls are primarily covered by shelves and hooks. Any ideas? I want it to be fun, cute, silly...whatever.just no more boring white!

Answers:
Go and buy some hemp rope, or any other rope, and hang just below the ceiling line in an erratic pattern (not a straight line). Get some clothes pins and hang some small clothes from the line here and there. Go to a wallpaper store and buy border of clothes hanging on a clothline and hang that. Paint your room to look like it's outside, all light blue with clouds on the ceiling. with flowers at the baseboards and grass growing. Take the theme and run with it... Don't forget you'll need to paint a clothes pole, and there should be a person bending down to pick laundry out of a basket.

Sounds like lime green is the color for you!

Then I'd pick purples nd lavenders for the door, doorframes, etc. If you wanted to paint a clothes line, that lime green on the background will go with any color!

In fact, you may just do the lime green background, and then install some fun "wallies" decals. Have fun!
that sounds like a great idea. If you do go forward with it, i would try making the clouds the shelves to add a little more spunk. if your laundry room is small i would keep with the bright colors and add a mirror in there to open it up a bit.

You can also goa little country style also, like an old time wash room... there is great decor around for you to browse:

things of this nature.
I love your idea! Another thought would be to go with a beach theme with lots of colors of sand and water (aqua), white for trim and woodwork, and white baskets on your shelves. Maybe a mural of a sailboat (those are pretty easy to paint) with a touch of red for accent maybe on the little flag on top and here and there around the room. Billowy gauzy white curtains.
Just an idea. But I do like your laundry on the line idea!
I painted my laundry room walls a beige color and then diluted a brown paint with water to make a wash which I put on with a rag so that the walls looked old and antiqued, then i went through a lot of old magazines and cut out old photos of women doing laundry, laundry products, clothing hanging on the clothes line, I even took the labels and cut soap boxes for the logos and I decoupaged these to the walls and then painted red trims around them it really looks great.
