It's called a frog
FROG
It is called a frog.
It is mostly only present in Clay bricks to help them bond to the cement.
The frog is meant to face up and be filled with cement but most brickies use them face down as they use less cement that way and are quicker to lay.
Concrete bricks as a rule donot have frogs because they are strong enough.
It is usually LBC bricks which have the frog.
like they all say ..it is a frog ..and yes they should be laid frog up ..and yes they normally are bricks made by lbc ..modern bricks have holes in them .for two reasons ..better bond and they save both weight and the amount of clay used ..
wow! learn something new every day. i did not know that! a frog, cool!
