How to paint Drum set on my own?
Question:I have primed the shells of my set already and I am ready to add my first coat... Should I use the same kind of paint that is used on cars? I can purchase cans at the local Auto Store. Any other suggestions that look good but not too expensive?
Answers:
If you've stripped the shells then primed them you should be able to use a regular paint (like you would paint a house with). If you're going to spray the paint the car paint might work, but I've never used it. What ever you use the most important thing is to use a polyurethane, and use a couple coats of it.
Recently I've started making custom sets (both wrapping and staining them). I've stained two drum sets so far (as it's hard to find a used set that isn't beat up or have blemishes on them or discoloration). After staining and sealing them I use about three coats of a polyurethane.
I guess it all depends on if your just going to spray them one color or hand paint a design on them. Either way the car paint or even house paint should work.
Yes this will work. You can also cover them with vinyl acryllic sheets. You will want to spray several coats of clear on them at the end. Do not just spray with regular color. You must spray clear coat at end. This will add to the durablity of the paint.
You could use a $30 cord to whip the paint on it.
