How can you conceal an unwanted door?
Question:I am about to move into a house in which my room has two entry doors, one from the main hallway and a random door into the dining room. I am trying to conceal the door leading to the dining room. In order to maximize the amount of space, I believe I will put my bed in front of the door, but the side of the bed will be against the door, still exposing the door. I am a renter, so I cannot tear down the frame and put up drywall. Does anyone have any suggestions or decorating tips on how to conceal this?? Thanks!

The answer is a fresco. What is that you ask? It is when you make the door appear to be something it is not. Here is an example of something you could buy to hang on a mobile piece of plywood with a mounted door frame or other decorative element.

Or you can put a faux finish glaze on a custom fit piece of wood with a curtain sash to make it look like a decorative head board. For ideas on how to do this visit http://www.coloradofauxpainting.com/faux...

Hang curtains on your window that reach the floor. Get an extra set and hang them in front of the door so it looks like a window.
You could hang a drape over the door, put a poster over the door, or buy a big sheet of thin cardboard poster paper and tape it over the door, then put down spackle all over paper and the edges and paint over dried spackled down poster paper. When it's time to move out it should be relatively easy to remove that stuff.
Paint. Paint the door the same color as the walls. You will barely notice it.
You can put drapes over the door. But, MAKE SURE YOU BLOCK BOTH SIDES OF THE DOOR!! A blocked door is a firefighter's worst nightmare in the event of an emergency. If they would attempt to access your room from the outside, they are going to encounter your bed, or be unable to open and be forced to destroy the door. Visibility in a fire can be less than 6 inches. Put something solid on the other side of the door as well, so it will not be discovered during a building search if you would ever have a fire. It isn't a good idea to block at all, but if you must make sure both sides are hidden..from site and touch.
That'll be tough to do well without making it out to look like a window with curtains.
A big mirror, painting, cork board, or poster might work, since the bed is covering most of the bottom. If you have a really big head board that ought to work OK.
If the walls and the door are the same color and texture, fake vines, and a book shelf might cover up the door frame OK, and a small end table could hide the knob... but that's pretty iffy.
