How do you make a duvat cover for a queen sized bed?
Question:would the fabric be wide enough? It doesn't seem so hard. Any help would be great!!
Answers:
you can alway buy 2 queen size flat sheets and sew them together to create a duvet. they are so hard to buy these days. and when you do find them they are either ugly as sin, or expensive as hell.
I would throw myself on the mercy of the sales person at your local craft shop! Tell them what you are doing and ask if there are any patterns and how much fabric you will be needing to do your project.
You're right, if you can sew straight you can make a duvet cover :-)
Check out the standard duvet cover sizes on the link below.
Queen Duvet Cover 87" x 90" 220 x 230 cm
Cut 2 pieces of fabric to these sizes adding on a seam allowance (1.5cm each side). Sticth 3 sides, leaving one end open. As a closure you can either add buttons & button holes or buy a popper tool and poppers. Velcro can also work.
If your fabric is not wide enough (which will most probably be the case) devide the width (220cm) and cut 4 pieces 110cm by 230cm/ Attach them together to create two 220x230 panels. Just remeber to add seam allowance for the centre seam.
Happy sewing :-)
Use two king sized sheets and sew them to fit the queen size Let the top part overlap enough to put velcro; snaps; or buttons and button holes so it can be washed when needed. I made one this way withour too much trouble.
You cannot use queen sized sheets beacause you have to allow for the filling of the comforter and seam allowances. or else you will have a big squished thing. all around .
