I want to make my small room appear bigger.?
Question:incase you haven't noticed by the other questions i've posted today, i'm redoing my room. :)
i have a pretty small room, it's probably 11'x12' (roughly).
i'm painting it, getting a new bed, some storage things, new bedspread, etc. i'm 15, so i have a small budget.
do you have any tricks to make my room seem bigger?
is it a bad idea to paint my cieling along with my walls?
i was thinking about a black and white duvet
(here; http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/shopping/... )
but i'm not sure yet.
i like bright pinks,
light blues, teals,
and aquamarines.
please help! best answer gets 5 stars!

Answers:
Paint your walls a light colour. Make your window treatment (blinds/cutains) colour close to your wall colour, or lighter. Paint your ceiling a lighter colour than your walls (white?) so that is looks higher.
Get rid of too much furniture. Keep space beneath your furniture - eg chest of drawers on short legs instead of no legs. It makes your furniture look less heavy.
Also, keep clutter to a minimum and lines simple. Make a nice vocal point (in bright pink?) to attract the eye to away from the room size and to the vocal point.
Hope this helps. Happy decorating! It's always fun :-)
my room isn't much bigger than that... so paint your walls a lighter shade of whatever color you choose. Sure it's fine to paint the ceiling...
My room is asain and the walls are a light goldish tan color and the ceiling is a about two shades darker than that and it looks really good.
Putting a darker color on the ceiling will make the ceiling appear lower and putting a lighter shade than the wall colors will make it appear higher.
one thing we did to make one of our bedrooms seem bigger was to change from curtains to blinds. It really did make a difference.
Hey! I'm 15 too! Anyway, when i took interior design they told us that heavy-looking furniture or furniture that's close to the ground makes a room look smaller. Big mirrors are a big help too. as for the color you probably want to go with a light, cool, relaxing colors because the brighter the room the bigger it looks.
Good luck & happy decorating!
~ have to have a white ceiling..dark colours will make the room look smaller
~ keep furniture to a minimum...use place like under your bed for storage
~ have a long standing mirror in the corner of the room
