Paint does wonders and is reletively cheap.
There are paints sutable for every surface in your kitchen, make sure you buy the right ones and follow all instructions.
There are paints made for:
cabinets
appliances
sinks
floors
formica & tile counters
If you have A window and are feeling creative
there are even paints to make your window look like stained or etched glass.
Also if you have inset type cabinets use A saw to cut out the thin wood in the middle of A couple of the upper cabinets and replace it with glass (you can even do them to match your newly painted "stained glass" window)
A New paint job. Not only the walls but cabinets. You could also paint the floor.
1) There is no such thing as a cheap house project. They're inherently like the US Congress. --- black holes that suck in money.
2) Refinish the cabinets --- lots of sweat equity and time, but cheap.
3) Repaint the walls.
4) Appliance paint can sparkle up a dingy refrigerator.
5) If money is left over, new counter tops. If not much is left over, install a spiffy new faucet.
