Be sure to get at least 3 estimates and don't forget referrals. Also, do you have a local home improvement club? Most communities have one. You could go there and get some referrals.
You will have trouble finding an architect interested in such a small job at all, I couldn't get one interested in a 3,400 custom home. You might find a recently graduated student but I you just go to a small builder, they may have a design association with someone.
