Decorating dilemma?

Question:i got married last year and my wife and i have lived in this house for a year without decorating. the problem is that we can't decide how to mesh our two styles.

i have a more modern, contemporary, clean lined, simple, clean style. my wife is more classic, frilly, old school style. how do we mesh our two different styles and still have a flow with the house?

Answers:
It should be pretty easy to incorporate both styles into your decorating. For example, buy a nice clean-lined leather sofa in a neutral color, paint the walls in a nice clean, neutral color to match the sofa, and accent with peices she might pick out. She will probably have to tone-down the frills, only because that look is fading and it might be hard for her to find things like that. She can hang up a nice flower artwork and draw colors from that picture to accent the rest of the room. If you each have your own "rooms" like bathrooms, study, whatever, you can each decorate according to your own style.

If you can't compromise on a style, there are two other options: you can either split up each room, and have each of you decide the entire design of them - for example, if she does most of the cooking, let her design the kitchen. Or, you can opt for a design that is neutral to you both, like shabby chic or a home-y, woodsy-type theme. That way, no one will have the advantage and you can create a style all your own.

come to a compromise that, you have your style in the living room (say) and she can do her style in the bathroom etc.otherwise it will all clash
Easy, if you want a long term, happy marriage, do what she wants. Your likes are over, my friend, lol.
I know how you feel-only I am the wife, and my husband has a more modern flair. In fact, he got his way, and 4 of his electic guitars are hanging in our living room-besides our new leather sofa.
Maybe compromise per room-in one, contemporary, and in another, sweet and frilly. Since the living room in our home is modern, I have the bedroom. He´s never slept in a bed of flowers before I came along.

mixing old with new in decorating
If you can get a station on your tv that has decorating ideas, etc. like Home and Garden, etc., those shows can give you ideas on what to do. Or, just each pick a room to decorate the way you like-one has one room, the other has another room.
Check out this program on HGTV called "Get It Together." The whole premise is about couples who have very different decorating styles & cannot compromise. There's also information & photos on its website about how to make two themes work together:

why not mix them both together, go to www.ikea.co.uk for some good ideas.
