Lighting Quetsion?
Question:I've been wondering how to add lighting to my room. I have one original light fixture which is in the center of the room, how would I go about adding extra lights say on the wall. How could this be done?
If I were unable to get the wiring inside the walls, would it be safe to keep it against the wall with plastic staples or something like you would with cables along the skirting board on your floor.
Thanks

This seems to be a common problem. The easiest way to add more light to a room without having to install anything is to add table lamps and/or torchieres. They make these fixtures in various styles and can range from $15.00 to $300+. I have found the best way to increase the light in the room immediately , without hassle, and without spending too much money is to purchase a halogen torchiere (floor lamp). If the shade is facing up the light will be ambient (give you more overall lighting in the room). If you get a downward facing shade it can be used to give you more light in a specific area. Halogen light is more efficient than incandescent and produces more light. If you wanted to add even more light you could do a couple of table lamps with compact fluorescent bulbs. That way you are still getting more light and saving the environment at the same time =).
there are some wall lights that just plug in, I believe Ikea may have some. This way you don't have to worry about the wiring, however you may also have to deal with the unsightly cord leading to your outlet, but there are creative ways around this. Also have you considered up lighting? if your extra lights are just for ambiance they could look cool, in the corners, behind your bed or a plant...
best way to have an additional light for ambiance without suffering from hideous floating wires is to install a track light or pin lights and face it towards your wall.
you may also use some indirect lighting on the sides of your ceiling. you can ask your local supply what this indirect lighting is. it has a smoother effect and unexposed wires.
never install wall lamps as this will be leaving you no choice but to expose wires.
AVOID EXPOSING WIRES
good luck
If you are looking to add wall sconces you need to redo the drywalling because all the wires etc are fed through the walls so you dont see the wires. You could also replace your original fixture in the room with something that would add to the ambiance to your room, lighting choices are endless and changing a fixture is relatively simple.
