I am buying a new bed. What are the pros and cons of having a foot board?
Question:
Answers:
It totally depends on the look you are going for. Footboards are usually (not always) better if you use comforters. A full bedspead can (but not always) get bunched up.
I have a sleighbed, so of course, it completes the look of my bed, and I hang two small throws on the edges that we use when watching TV or as extra blankets in cold weahter.
But it is not difficult to move at all. Mine comes apart nicely. I have two wood rails that connect the head boad to the foot board and provide the framing for the slats and mattress.
It's just opinion as to what looks best, but if you want a footboard, and you are concerned about moving it, just make sure it comes apart easily.
Pros: they're pretty, and some people like to rest their feet on them.
Cons: if you're a tall person, you might hit your feet off of it while you're sleeping. Also, if you're moving anytime soon, a big bed is a pain to move.
Pros include an entirely too handy place to hang shirts, tote bags, stockings, robes, etc. Or is that a con? A footboard which is flat is, however, a nice place to put the bedspread or an extra blanket while you sleep, or to display a quilt you may not need or which is delicate.
Cons are that if it doesn't detach easily, it'll be a bear to move--and impossible to maneuver into certain rooms or up some staircases. (Ask me about our beautiful brass bed--the one in storage.) Plus (how to put this delicately?), an enthusiastic bed partner can press his or her feet against it and shove, hard, cracking it or its attachment point. If you watch TV in bed, the footboard can block the view unless you sit up or prop yourself up.
It really hurts when you stub your toe on it
The pros are that their pretty, they hide a crooked sheets, their fun to hop over. I don't know any cons.
