Can you put carpet tiles over old carpet, or do you have to rip up the old carpet?

Question:

Answers:
No carpet manufacturer recommends carpet over carpet, at least as far as a warranty.

You can do it, but it's really not that great of an idea.

Doors have to be planed to allow them to open and close.

It happens in commercial occasionally. This is a not a long term solution! It's like wearing your clothes over your pajamas. You can do it but not a good idea.

You need to rip up the old carpet to make sure the floor beneath is in good shape. Then lay the carpet tiles on the padding (in good shape) to ensure a smooth floor.
You need to get rid of the old carpet first. If they are adhesive carpet tiles, you want to be sure your floor is clean and dry first before applying them. Good luck!
you need to rip the old one, otherwise your carpet tiles wouldn't be stable enough to hold together, you'll have an imbalance flooring. And the adhesive wouldn't work well over the old carpet since it's not solid, not to mention dusty. Take it out!
