Should he?

Question:My 16 year old son has one of those HIGH SLEEPER beds - the ones with the desk + futon underneath! ...anyway he got this bed a while ago because he has a SMALL room.
He now says he is too old for a high sleeper, but if he has a bed on the floor there will be no space for anything!
What should i do, what is the best solution, is he right...is he too old?

Answers:
Honestly... when your son goes to college in a couple of years... he's going to laugh when he walks into his dorm room.
Guess what they use(well the majority)??

They use a bunk bed with the desk underneath!!

If he's wanting a new bed... then make sure you both measure it to see if it'll fit.

But I don't really see the point of buying a new bed(or taking the old one down to the ground) just because he thinks he is too old for it.

Hopefully he's coming at you with this like maturely... makes it easier to compromise.

If not... buy him some new bedding and tell him to put his thumb back in his mouth.

Have you got a shed?
id say he's getting a little too old, although it is totally up to the individual, some people prefer to sleep in a high sleeper!!
try moving rooms with a sibling if there is anyone else living there, if not i don't see another solution short of knocking down a wall and repositioning it!!

try explain that there isn't a solution for the time being but if and when you move he can get the bigger room, compromise is key!

oh, and i wouldnt recommend the shed idea, way too cold and sheds big enough can be quite expensive!
I don't really think he's too old. Many college students have this type of set up in their dorm rooms but if he really doesn't want it this way, I say it's time for some strategy. Ask him to figure out a solution for where his stuff would go if his bed was on the floor and if his idea is some other piece of furniture, have him help you pay for it. If he's "too old" for the stuff you've provided for him and he wants to be treated like more of an adult, then this is a great opportunity for a lesson in planning and a lesson in grown up responsibility and paying for things yourself.
Make a fold away bed at floor level that folds to the wall when not in use as they have in ships and ferries etc.
While I agree with the answers that say "I'm too old" is an insufficient motivation, a good way to achieve dual space is the class sleep sofa (room fitted out like an office with sofa) or - much better - a built in Murphy bed. An internet search will provide a variety of versions. This way the room is available for another purpose when your son relocates to college.
Not sure how much room you have to work with. My son also has a very small room and one thing that we have found the is great is the captains bads. You can actually buy any size bed and then use the drawers that slide up under them for clothing and storage. Then maybe you could build some shelves from floor to ceiling along one wall with an area open in the center that is large enough for him to do homework. If you can do these projects yourself it shouldn't cost too much.
He's too old for that. He needs to feel soem self-respect and i doubt any 16 yo would feel that about sleeping in a childs space-saver bed.

My 16yo g.daughter sleeps in the tiniest of boxrooms with a full size bed and tiny desk to work from. much better for her than a high bed ( whcih she would associate with bunk beds and therefore little children ).
A divan with storage is a start, and some cupboards built around the tops of the walls. Maybe a tall cupboard with a pull out desk- look in the argos catalogue for some ideas! There are lots of storage solutions out there- he may just have to cut down on some of his things- reason that with him and see if he still keen. Other than that theres always the garden!!
