How much do most contractors charge to just lay tile over existing subflooring..per hour and/or per sq ft?

Question:There are so many variables I know, tiling a floor, wall or backsplash...over concrete or backerboard...type and size of tile...etc. So any numbers with the associated details would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Answers:
well i have did this for years, and here is what i learned, anywhere from $4-6 a square foot to install on floor, adding hardybacker another $1 a square foot.walls and backsplash $7-9 hope this helps.

My flooring guy installed 18" floor tile in a 45degree pattern (diamond... harder because of more cuts) for $2 a sq/ft... plus $1.50 sq/ft to pull up the old 12" tile. (on a slab)
