I have an atv with the original paint on it and another one over that, now I want to paint it.?
Question:I am probably going to use Krylon Fusion paint because that is what people say is good. But do I have to sand down the old paint to the original or just paint over that. This is an old atv with hard plastic fenders. The person before me painted it blue and that scrapes off very easy, so you can see the original red paint. So do I have to sand it first or can i just paint over it with the Krylon Fusion paint for plastic and then put a clear coat?

To be honest I don't think the Fusions paints going to work for you. Sure you can paint plastic with it. But their talking plastic that isn't going to be flexed. I had a buddy paint his aftermarket ATV gas tank with Fusions. We wiped the new tank down to get off any of the mold release that could have been left on from the molding process. We followed the directions and it looked great when we were done. But a few weeks later with gas spilled on it, rocks bouncing off of it and branches smacking it. The tank looked like total crud.
It's your call. If you want to do it best of luck to you. If you do make sure you get off all that old paint. Then for a better finish sand the body down with 800-1000 grit sand paper to remove any of the body inperfections & scratches you might have now. I seen wheelers painted with the Fusions paint. It doesn't cover scratches well.

If the coat that is on there now is scraping off easy you will defiantly need to prime! If you dont you will spray the new paint on the old stuff and it may last a little while but will do just the same thing and scrape off too. Make sure to get the primer compatible with the paint that you are using for plastic.
