How do you remove vinyl flooring from slab to install ceramic tile?

Question:

Answers:
There are scraper tools available that will slide under the tiles and lift it off. There are hand tools that will give you a good work out, and I think I've seen power scrapers that do this, check your local rental center. If it's really glued down tight, you might need to rent a grinder to get it off, again, check your local rental center to see what they recommend.

you buy a floor scrapper and get a work out.
Just recently had tile installed and we had to do to remove some of the flooring. Using a sharp utility knife of some sort cut the flooring into manageable pieces. Then either use the knife or some sort of scraper to lift the pieces you just created. If its like ours was the pieces were extremely easy to remove. Good Luck!
You actually don't have to remove the vinyl, you can tile right over it, which is what was done at my house.
yes. but there is a simpler way. go to lowes or home depot. look for the ceramic tile or granite, or marble you want. ask for the snap together floating tile floor. I did this in my kitchen. it snaps together like pergo and you can just place it over what you have. my kitchen floor is granite and my bathroom is marble. no mess, no worries, hardly any work. a little bit more expensive (my granite was $9 per foot), but it is a floating floor and will save you tons of work. You can be finished in a couple of hours. you will need a ceramic tile saw, a measuring tape and that is about it.
have fun. it will look great.
If the vinyl flooring is in good shape ie. well glued down, not chipped, torn, curling, or loose, you can actually lay ceramic tile directly over it. Use a high quality thinset, such as TEC SuperFlex, and you'll never have a problem.

The vinyl will actually perform as a crack isolation membrane. This is a thin sheet of material adhered to the floor before tile, to prevent any cracks in the concrete from transferring to the tile or grout. It usually costs extra, but you may already have it in place!
If it has to come off heat it up with a torch-you don't want to burn it off,but get it warm enough to scrape off without killing yourself.

You will have glue residue left-knock it down however you want -sharp scraper on a handle works best-level it out(floor patch) scrape that and get to it...
You get a floor scraper to remove the large parts and then rent a sander to remove the small pieces. Lots of hard work
