B&Q bathroom fitting?
Question:I went to B&Q and chose my bathroom, shower, tiles etc. It totalled £900 which I was quite pleased with. They then wanted £3200 extra to do the complete job. My bathroom is only small 2 x 2m. Please tell me I could get it done cheaper!!

I used to be a joiner, and fitted kitchens for Magnet in the 90's. They charged the customers £1500, of which we got £650.so that was £850 pure profit. Sounds like B&Q have just taken the same line...so yes, they are taking the mickey out of you.
If you want to break the whole job down, it's easy. To remove & fit a new standard bathroom suite is a one and a half day job maximum for a plumber, and should cost no more than £350. Your tiling cost will obviously depend on how flash the tiles you've chosen are, but assuming your 2m x 2m bathroom is 2.4m high, and you want the whole wall surface area tiling, then you have a total of 19.2m2 to tile. If you subtract the door & frame area (approx 1.9 m2 usually), and any windows you may have, and the area where the bath/shower tray will be sited, that will give you the actual area to be tiled, so you know how many square metres to buy (add 10% for waste). Corner trims will cost another £20 or so. A tiler will usually be able to tile a bathroom that size in a day, then grout it the following day, so assume an approximate labour cost of £300-400. This assumes of course that you won't be tiling the floor as well, which will obviously affect the price, in which case add another £200 maximum
So you should have an approximate labour cost of £700-1000, plus they may charge you VAT if they are VAT registered.
Stuff B&Q, get in touch with your local trading standards office and ask for the names of good local plumbers and tilers.
Hope this helps...
Haven't you got a husband who could fit it or boyfriend? If not there should be local plumbers or bathroom fitters who would be a lot cheaper. My husband fitted our bathroom and tiled it all and we saved a fortune.
Yes, thats too much.
To rip out an old bathroom and fit a new one, including tiling would be <£1500.
However, it doesn't seem like your £900 materials will include tiles so if its just a suite change it should be 2 days work about £400 labour
My mum had a B&Q bathroom and kitchen fitted.eeemmm OK & average but not up to scratch from my point of view - i'd prefer to do it myself and do a better job than B&Q.
Her B&Q bathroom was £1200 materials and £1200 removal / fitting ( including tiling ).
£3200 is a mistake at best, probably just trying it on..
Lynda, thats funny.i thought woman wanted equality in 2007 ? Whats with the "find a man" comments.
( just funny, not a criticism, I've got no problem with expecting me to do all the DIY, it happens all the time )
NEVER, EVER have B & Q to fit anything! I paid £1,500 to have them fit my kitchen. It ended up a total mess and despite going to a Solicitor I never succeeded in getting any compensation. B & Q sent a chap to see me who looked like a club bouncer. Scared me to death! I'm having to replace my kitchen floor now because the fitter failed to tighten a nut up on one of the washing machine pipes. I didn't know it was leaking being hidden behind the plinths under the cupboard. The company has been featured on Watchdog and in That's Life magazine in the past - so many complaints. Go by recommendation, it's the safest way. I wouldn't pay them 50p to fit anything and yes, you can get it done cheaper. B & Q are rip off merchants
