Help with Painting My Room.?

Question:Okay so Im pregnant and i wanna fix up my room for when the baby gets here. I want to paint it (Not me my husband, i wont be coming in the room) but we dont really know much about painting specially because the wall is like wallpaper but not wallpaper... i tried painting it once (and like i said i dont know Sh. about painting) and if you scratched it just a lil the paint would come right off. So i asked this guy from the store and he had said that you cant just paint it because of the walls i have that i needed primer paint and then paint it the color i wanted. Well anywayz can somebody that knows about painting plz help me out and explain to me what we should do... And also how long will it take for me to move back in the room since im pregnant (5 months). Also i have a pic of my walls its like SheetRock but now sheetrock its nailed to the wall on top of sheetrock and it looks like wallpaper... Well hope someone can help we're gonna start next week.

That looks like wallpaper that has been put right over the drywall. I had that in my house and unfortunately I learned the hard way that you can't peel that stuff off without destroying your drywall. The easiest thing for you to do would be to probably just prime and paint over the wall paper. If you go to Home Depot or Lowes someone should be able to help you find a good primer. If you're planning to paint it a dark color they can even tint the primer to the color paint you're going to use. That will help cover much better.
