I have smooth plastered exterior walls painted with white exterior SANTEX. One wall is showing some fungus?
Question:Any idea how to treat it before painting again. Painting over it dose not seem like a good idea
Answers:
SANTAX ?? could not find anything with that name except it was a french car maker in the 1920's .
Anyway , do not paint over it , first thing to do is find out what caused the fungus to grow , and eliminate it .. clean the fungus off , go to your local PAINT store , not hardware , not lowes , not home depot ..Paint store ...
describe the fungus to them tell them the type of surface you have , they can recommend the best cleaner , and technique ,or procedure for cleaning it , they can also tell you the best paint ,and prep technique's you will need to successfully repaint the surface .
The mold is behind the wall. You want to take the sheetrock down and inspect the inside of the wall. Try bleach to kill off the mold.
to have fungus , you must have damp coming into the house on that wall you need to find out where from to properly cure it, DO NOT COVER AIR BRICKS THOUGH ,
there is damp coming from somewhere, and will probably need that wall re platsereing .
you can buy anti fungal liquid i have some good luck
Yep painter for 10 years :) have to fix the problem first find out where the roof is leaking or if it maybe a water line etc. Then after you find the problem You should either take out the dry wall that is moldy or wash with warm soapy bleach water. Mold is not good to be around. Then get yourself some good old liquid killz and paint over the surface after the wall dries. You can get latex or oil base. But i think latex enamel works better as far as clean up and application. Then after it dries coat with your wall color. You might have to apply a couple coats of the killz if it is to badly molded! good luck to ya
Buy a load of cheap bleach, dilute , apply with soft broom, leave for 2 hours and hose off. Next day apply Dulux Smooth Masonery Paint life expectency 15 years guaranteed Sandtex is cr@p My last house lasted 17 years before re-doing.
